MTA Programs

Storm Water Management Programs

The Environmental Management Program is to work in accordance with the Maine Turnpike Authority's Strategic Plan: To be sensitive to Maine's special environmental heritage.

Objective 12 of Infrastructure Improvements states:

  • John Branscom, Environmental Services Coordinator: jbranscom@maineturnpike.com
  • The Environmental Office provides regulatory oversight and coordinates with MTA departments and contractors in erosion and sedimentation control, as well as stormwater management.
  • The Environmental Office schedules and provides stormwater training for MTA employees. MTA sends its Engineering Staff and Highway Maintenance Supervisors to attend the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) Non-Point Source Training and Resource Center with the goal to become Certified in Soil and Erosion Control Practices.
  • MTA through a Stormwater Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the MDEP, oversees the implementation of construction and post construction erosion and sedimentation control best management practices (BMPs) on MTA construction projects. We provide an annual summary progress report to the MDEP.
