Communications Center Specialist

Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) seeks a full-time Communications Center Specialist in its 24-hour Traffic Management Center located in Portland, Maine. Position provides emergency and non-emergency communications services for police, fire and emergency medical personnel, MTA employees, and the public. Work involves control of communications (including various ITS), recording information into a computer aided dispatch system and a variety of databases, and ensuring the readiness of all advisory equipment utilized by the Maine Turnpike Authority.
 
Successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to receive and disseminate information accurately and quickly. Applicants will have a working knowledge of computer, telephone and radio systems, and accurate keyboarding skills with minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience working within a public safety dispatch center, traffic management center or with a computer aided dispatch system is required. Must successfully pass a criminal history and background check, and be able to handle high pressure situations.  Hours will vary, and evenings, weekends and holiday work will be required.
 
Salary range is $24.49 to $31.26 per hour, depending on experience, plus shift differential. Comprehensive benefits package includes overtime after 8 or 10 hours in a day, dependent on shift; holidays worked are paid at overtime rate; 100% paid health, dental and life insurances for employee; 13 paid holidays; paid vacation and sick time; generous annual medical copay reimbursement benefit; retirement benefits; tuition reimbursement, and specialized training.
