Kristi Van Ooyen, P.E. is the Chief Engineer for the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) in Portland, Maine. In this role, she provides strategic leadership and oversight of engineering, construction, and building maintenance activities, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the Authority’s infrastructure.
Joining the MTA in 2011, Ms. Van Ooyen previously served as the Deputy Chief Engineer and Engineering Program Manager at the MTA, contributing to the advancement of the Authority’s engineering initiatives and operational excellence. Prior to her tenure at the MTA, Ms. Van Ooyen spent 11 years with the Nebraska Department of Transportation, working in the Bridge and Construction Divisions. There, she specialized in bridge design, load ratings, and supervised the construction of numerous state bridges, gaining extensive experience in transportation infrastructure development.
She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska, as well as an MBA from the University of Maine, combining technical expertise with leadership and strategic management skills.
