PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Senate voted today to confirm Andre J. Briere as the new Executive Director of the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA). This follows his nomination having been approved by the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Transportation on April 1.
"I look forward to working with the outstanding and dedicated MTA team to make the Maine Turnpike Authority shine even brighter than it does today as the crown jewel of Maine’s transportation system," said Briere.
Briere brings extensive experience in transportation, logistics, emergency management, and large-scale project leadership. He most recently served as Deputy Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT), where he played a key role in advancing transportation initiatives and overseeing statewide infrastructure programs. Before his tenure at NHDOT, Briere held executive roles in the private sector and served a decorated 29-year career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a FEMA-certified National Executive Emergency Manager.
Maine Turnpike Authority Chairman Michael Cianchette, stated, "The Board voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Andre Briere. He had a long and distinguished career in the United States Air Force and has done a remarkable job over the past several years leading the New Hampshire Department of Transportation as Deputy Commissioner."
As Briere steps into his new role, he envisions a transparent, dynamic, and responsive MTA that serves our communities and builds on its proud legacy into the future.
Chairman Cianchette also expressed gratitude to MTA Chief Operating Officer Peter Merfeld for serving as Interim Executive Director over the past seven months and thanked the MTA Board for their dedication in selecting a highly qualified candidate.
