FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 10, 2026 |
PORTLAND, ME--The Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) is expanding its modern tolling options with the upcoming launch of professionally branded E-ZPass windshield sticker tags. Featuring officially licensed designs from Hearts of Pine, the Portland Sea Dogs, and the Boston Red Sox, the new tags will be available early fall.
The branded sticker tag program marks a first for the E-ZPass consortium. No other member agency has introduced officially licensed professional sports sticker-style transponders. The tags are being produced by STAR Systems International (SSI), and Maine is the first agency in the consortium to place an official order supported by trademark licensing agreements.
The announcement follows the successful launch of MTA's standard E-ZPass windshield sticker tags, which became available at the Portland E-ZPass Customer Service Center on July 8. The low-profile sticker tags provide a lower-cost, more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional hard-case transponders.
Sticker tags adhere directly to a vehicle's windshield and offer several benefits:
Traditional transponders will remain available for customers who prefer a device that can be transferred between vehicles.
"Placing our first order for branded sticker tags this month is more than a procurement milestone," said Andre Briere, Executive Director of the MTA. "They are designed with people and community at the center."
The initiative also provides charity benefits. Hearts of Pine will donate 100% of their proceeds from sales of its branded sticker tags to the HOP Foundation, supporting youth soccer programming and community engagement throughout Maine.
"Our partnerships with these great teams give customers a fun way to show their team pride while benefiting from modern, lower-cost tolling technology," said Samantha Kaherl, Director of E-ZPass Operations. "Customers have already embraced our new sticker tags, and the branded versions will build on that excitement."
Availability
Production of the sticker tags is underway for all three organizations. MTA anticipates the branded sticker tags to be available early fall once manufacturing and delivery are complete. Specific release dates for each team design will be announced as they are finalized.
