The Time to Shape Maine Turnpike Future Investments is NOW

Tell us what priorities matter most for your town, commute, or region

The Maine Turnpike Authority is developing its 2027–2030 Capital Investment Plan, and the public comment window is open.

If you’ve ever wondered whether public feedback makes a difference, look at the Saco interchange improvements on the Turnpike. The completion of the new Exit 35 — the first new Turnpike exit in more than 20 years — would not have moved forward without community input. Those early comments helped shape how the project was designed. The MTA reviews every submission during public comment as part of the planning process and ask the public to share what priorities matter most for your commute and region.

The plan includes projects under consideration and the decisions that will guide the next four years. Public comments influence how future priorities are set, which projects move forward, and how major investments are planned.

"Public feedback is an important part of the MTA’s planning process, said Chief Engineer Kristi Van Ooyen. "While not every suggestion can be incorporated into the four‑year plan, community perspectives help the MTA understand priorities and inform how long‑term investments are evaluated."

Projects outlined in this year’s draft plan span communities throughout southern and central Maine — including Kittery, York, Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunk, Arundel, Biddeford, Saco, Scarborough, South Portland, Portland, Falmouth, Cumberland, Gray, New Gloucester, Auburn, Lewiston, and Litchfield. These locations represent a wide range of infrastructure needs across bridge repairs, pavement rehabilitation, interchange improvements, and culvert upgrades. The draft plan also lists the anticipated project duration for each municipality, helping the public understand the construction timeline and scope for each location.

Public comment has been open since July 1, and the MTA is encouraging residents to weigh in before the July 31 deadline. Learn more and share your feedback online or by mail at:
