New Southbound On-Ramp on Lewiston Road in West Gardiner Now Open

Old southbound on-ramp will also be open through weekend (closing 8/7)

WEST GARDINER, Maine — Maine Turnpike Authority’s newly completed southbound on-ramp on Lewiston Road in West Gardiner is now open. With the new ramp, motorists seeking to go south on the Maine Turnpike will now enter directly from Lewiston Road (Route 9/126) located just west of the Turnpike and the West Gardiner Service Plaza.

The new on-ramp will replace the existing clover-leaf southbound on-ramp and bridge underpass, located just north of Exit 102.  Construction crews will close the old southbound on-ramp on Monday, August 7, 2023. Until Monday, August 7th both southbound on-ramps will remain open.

“We are always studying ways to improve the Turnpike’s overall safety and efficiency,” said Erin Courtney, the Turnpike Authority’s Public Outreach Manager. “This new on-ramp eliminates the current on-ramp bridge, which was in need of rehabilitation.  This new ramp will provide long-term cost savings to the Turnpike and its travelers.”

Once the old on-ramp closes on August 7th, the contractor will then begin demolishing and removing the former on-ramp bridge.
