Southbound Lane Closure at Mile 46 of Maine Turnpike for Emergency Repairs to Stroudwater River Bridge

Repair work to center lane expansion joint expected to take three weeks

PORTLAND, Maine-Starting on Monday, March 18 at 7:00 PM, CPM Constructors will begin work on the southbound side of the Stroudwater River Bridge on the Maine Turnpike between Exits 47 and 46. The emergency repair work is due to a break in the bridge expansion joint in the center lane. The bridge will be reduced to two lanes by the morning commute on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. It is anticipated that this repair work will take three weeks.

On Monday, March 11, 2024, the break in the center lane expansion joint was identified on the bridge. This caused a hazardous condition which MTA maintenance fixed with a temporary steel plate. This temporary repair leaves the bridge with a large bump in the center lane, and because of that speeds have been reduced to 50 MPH in the area.

Throughout the repairs, the roadway will be reduced to two lanes of traffic with a temporary concrete barrier for worker safety. Motorists should be prepared for slowdowns in the area, especially during the morning commute. The speed limit will remain lowered for the duration of the work.

Please drive safely through the work zone.
